Description:

It's a nice grafical splash screen for LiLo.

It reproduces the Matrix movie scene in which Morpheus gives the 2 pills to Neo. In the movie Morpheus says: "Remember...all I'm offering is the truth. Noting else." offering the pills to Neo.
"Free your mind" is the phrase that Neo says before jump.

Is it cool, isn't it?

HOW TO INSTALL: see the readme-install_xx.txt file inside the .zip file.

***IMPORTANT!!!******************
For version 0.2 (current): I changed the position of the text "Free your mind in: " and some color. So you have to use the configuration lines that other_color.txt contain.
*****************

***PLEASE LEFT YOUR FEEDBACK (AND A COMMENT)!!!***

Coming (not so ^_^) soon:
- grub version & howto
- green version

Morpheus actually says "Remmeber...all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more." (rather than Nothing else.)
I have made a corrected bmp which can be found at http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/kmeehl/handy_128.bmp

Secondly, the color settings will work only on lilo 22.5.8 and up, so anyone running 22.5.7 will have to upgrade.

Finally, cool idea for a boot image. I likie. =)

Mandrake 10:

don't change anything in lilo.conf

just type:

# lilo-bmp2mdk mode:0x101 \
timer:450,10,0,25 \
entry:336,470,64+127,15,13,54 \
< handy_128bis.bmp > /boot/message-graphic
# lilo
# reboot

nice work

I use mandrake 10.0 community (LILO version 22.5.8).

I had to change:
install=/boot/boot-bmp.b
with:
install=bmp

REALLY nice
Some green matrix code would fit in nicely I think.

What exactly, did you do to make this work in MDK 10 ? I can't get it to work yet.

Could you post the instructions to editing Lilo?

Regards and thank in advance....

You know what would be perfect with this...

Change the LILO boot menu to look like this:

Take the red pill
Take the blue pill

Anyone know how to bust this out? LILO doesn't seem to like spaces in the menu names. =(

Awesome bootscreen! I think I'm gonna be using this one for a while.

FYI, if anyone wants more of a clean and simple selection text, try these settings:

bmp-colors=11,0,0,25,0,11 # text color

In deed... default="Windows" must be the same of label="Win98SE"...

default="Windows"
label="Windows"

OR

default="Win98SE"
label="Win98SE"

default means that lilo starts with the default label. but the label "Windows" doesn't exist, so it returns an error...

stay cool!

[eng]
unlucky (for you) the original image wasn't made by me. all I did is adating the origianl jpg for lilo, writing my lilo.conf and adding the text "Remember...bla bla bla"

I only had a good idea: no special skills...

Hell-o,

This took a bit for me to get working. I'm using Mandrake 9.2.

I had to edit the included settings to match the name of the included BMP file.

I had to change

message=/boot/message

to

# message=/boot/message

And the included bmp-colors and bmp-timer settings caused an error.

I had to change them to:

bmp-colors=6,9,0;15,9,0

and

bmp-timer=66,29,6,8,0

I got those settings from a webpage that detailed how to make a boot splash. I couldn't get one working using their directions though.

However, if I took an image, made it 640 x 480, reduced it (in GIMP, right click the image, select Image, then Mode, then Indexed, put 16 in number of colors, select No Dithering, then save as a BMP with RLE Encoding selected) to 16 colors, I was able to substitute my own image.

I can now make my own boot splashes. Thanks so much.

Blessed Be,

Jason Hodges

and there are no such file on my harddrive eather? Anyone knows how to do this? Thanks for this pic anyway! :)

Because mandrake has the grafical setting by defualt. Check if there is the follow line:

install=/boot/boot-bmp.b

It is enought to enable the graphical version.
